Boswellia serrata is a medium-sized tree that grows in the dry hilly forests of India. When its bark is cut, it releases a fragrant gum resin known as salai guggul or Indian frankincense, used in Ayurveda and as incense.
What are boswellic acids?
The resin contains natural compounds called boswellic acids. One of them is often abbreviated as AKBA. Many extracts are standardised to a total boswellic acid percentage, such as 65%.
Not the same as guggul
Salai guggul (boswellia) is different from guggul, the resin of Commiphora wightii. Check the botanical name on the label.
